Margaret Parker
Margaret Parker passed away January11, 2014 at the age of 97. Margaret and her twin sister, Madeline, were born on April 1, 1916, at their home on Lansing Avenue near Leslie, Michigan. Madeline succumbed to influenza when she was one year old. Margaret attended a one-room country school and later graduated from Leslie High School in 1934. Subsequent to graduation she was hired by the Leslie Farmers Cooperative where she served as bookkeeper for three years. In 1937 she married Ivan Parker, and they purchased a farm on Hull Road near Leslie. Twelve years later, Margaret and Ivan bought a nearby larger farm on State Road. Margaret joined The Peoples Bank of Leslie in 1966 where she served as Customer Relations and Loan Officer until she retired in 1981. However, when asked what she did for a living, she would always say she and her husband were farmers. Margaret is survived by many family members including her three children, Linda (Doug) Osborn, Tom (Lynn) Parker, Jim (Margo) Parker; six grandchildren, David (Kelly) Osborn, Nancy (Michael) Mulholland, Greg (Amy) Parker, Jennifer (Justin) Gilbert, Ivan (Katie) Parker, Kara Parker; ten great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan, in 1970; her parents, T. J. and Ortha Brownlee; sisters Madeline Brownlee and Nina Bell Marshall; brothers Paul Brownlee and Lloyd Brownlee; and her special friend Wilfred Walters. Family, friends, neighbors, and community were the driving forces in Margaret’s life. Only the love of her family exceeded Margaret’s love of life. She loved to meet people, travel, spend winters in Florida, play cards, and dance until the band stopped playing. The band has stopped playing, but somewhere Margaret is still dancing. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at the J. C. Adams Funeral Home, 109 Church Street, Leslie, Michigan, at 12:00 PM noon. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 14, 2014, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the J. C. Adams Funeral Home. The family requests donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to “Leslie Area Education Foundation,” (scholarship fund), c/o Superintendent’s Office, Leslie Public Schools, Leslie, MI 49251.
